Automatic, Future-proof Control

You can, of course, regulate the temperature of your house by adjusting the boiler’s mixer valve manually. Unfortunately, this does not provide the level of comfort and convenience that most people want today. It also reduces the conditions for perfect separation in the accumulator tank.

There are also strong financial arguments that speak for automated mixing, i.e. an automatic control and regulation system that ensures that the house temperature is just what you and your family want.

There are many different control and regulation systems on the market, but our own Thermomatic family gives you a range of benefits that mean a lot for both comfort and economy. Thermomatic automatically adjusts the temperature of the water that is pumped out to the radiators as needed. The most common alternative is that the system automatically maintains the indoor temperature that you will have, even when the outdoor temperature changes.

Five ways of regulating

The Thermomatic technology offers many ways to control and regulate. You can control the system with several different combinations of sensors, you can reduce the temperature in the house at night, or during the hours when no-one is home, you can save energy when you are on holiday and still come home to a warm house, and you can even use your telephone to raise or reduce the temperature, etc. Unlimited possibilities from a single product!

Good Advice For Optimising Your Heating System

Water flow is rarely adapted to the size of the radiators. The result of this is that the smallest radiators do not have time to take advantage of the heat in the water – the return is as hot as the supply.

The larger radiators, on the other hand, never get hot, which is usually compensated for by a larger pump and by the automatic by-pass control increasing the supply temperature. Also here, the result is unnecessarily warm return water, which leads to high energy consumption and poorer separation in the accumulator tank. And when less energy is stored, comfort is reduced.

This problem is usually easy to rectify. Many houses already have adjustable radiator valves. Otherwise, plenty of good, cheap and easily adjustable radiator valves are available on the market. If you have a normal valve like a Danfoss 10/15, it does not take long to set the choke to 2 for small radiators, to 4 for medium sized and 7 for large radiators.

If you have a two pipe system, this adjustment is often sufficient. If you have a single pipe system the radiators are connected in two or more loops. If you reduce the flow by lowering the pump speed, you should also adjust the loop valves so that all the loops maintain the same return temperature.

Good mixer valve automatics should:

  • have a reliable and strong motor that is suitable for, and can manage to, turn most mixer valves
  • be easy to set, and have a 7-day clock that gives night and day temperatures
  • be modular in construction and easy to complement with more functions
  • be so easy to install that you do not need a tradesman
  • be able to control the circulation pump
  • can utilise information from both outdoor and indoor sensors
  • have an optional alarm output and telephone remote control, as well as holiday reduction over the phone.
  • give high levels of safety through readable settings
  • be designed to comply with future EU requirements
  • look good on the boiler, i.e. neutral design
